'Winds Of Winter,' George R. R. Martin Become Butt Of April Fool's Day Jokes; No Release Date Yet As 'Game Of Thrones' Premieres After HBO Marathon

'Winds of Winter' release date and George R.R. Martin, who has confessed to being a very slow writer, has become the butt of April Fool's Day jokes. Meanwhile, "Game of Thrones" will premiere on April 4 following a marathon by HBO.

"Glee" fans were surprised after news that George R. R. Martin was tapped to take over the show, according to The Daily Reveille. And with the author known for killing off his characters at random, nobody is safe from the singing show.

"When you play a game of songs, you win or die. It is known," George Martin said, per the website.

The site also said that "Glee" under George R. R. Martin "will also include covers of songs from 'Game of Thrones,' including at least one performance of 'The Rains of Castamere.'"

So what about dragons in "Glee?" That would have been cool if the website didn't reveal in the last paragraph that it was just an April Fool's Day joke.

On the other hand, wetpaint reported that the "Winds of Winter" release date was announced by the author and "it's coming very soon."

The statement attributed to George R. R. Martin apparently said: "I'm happy to announce that Winds of Winter will be released at the conclusion of this season of 'Game of Thrones.' I actually finished the book three years ago, around the same time as 'A Dance with Dragons,' but my publisher wanted to see if 'Game of Thrones' the TV show really took off in popularity before releasing it so we could really capitalize on that."

Pity the fans who didn't read through the end because again, it was an April Fool's Day joke.

While "Winds of Winter" has no release date as of yet, HBO will air a marathon of episodes for "Game of Thrones" season 1-3 starting on Friday at 9 a.m. ET/PT as a sort of the buildup for the season 4 premiere, blog.zap2it reported.

And that's no joke.
