‘How I Met Your Mother’ Spinoff ‘Different’ From Sitcom It’s Based On? Will ‘How I Met Your Dad’ Have Happier Ending?

"How I Met Your Mother" spinoff will be different from the recently concluded sitcom and "How I Met Your Dad" could probably have a happier ending due to the main cast and writer.

Indie actress Greta Gerwig, who will also write and produce "How I Met Your Dad," said that she's such a huge fan of "HIMYM" but she wanted Ted and Robin to end up together like probably most of the viewers of the series.

She told Vulture that she begged the writers of the show (Carter Bays and Craig Thomas) not to let Ted Mosby's wife die.

"I'm such a schmaltzy person. It's like, yes, I know that Annie Hall is the best ending of all time when they don't end up together. But really, in my heart of heart of hearts ... I love in When Harry Met Sally when they end up together. I'm a little too corny for the sadder version."

When talking about the "How I Met Your Mother" spinoff, Greta Gerwig said that it's "going to be different from the original."

"When the premise of the show is that it's a young man looking for his true love, it's a very different feeling than a young woman looking for her true love," she added.

In the "How I Met Your Mother" spinoff, Greta Gerwig will play Sally who, according toE! News, is a "sweet yet free-spirited girl in her late-twenties" who seems to have the Peter Pan syndrome.

Unlike Ted in HIMYM, however, Sally in "How I Met Your Dad" is already married when viewers see her in the pilot episode but Sally will soon realize that her personality clashes with her husband.

Carter Bays and Craig Thomas will also executive produce "How I Met Your Dad" so it would be interesting to see whether Greta Gerwig's version (aka the happy ending) or the two creators' version (aka somebody dies) happens.
