Hunger Games Casting News: Game of Thrones' Warrior Brienne Goes Up Against The Capitol as Commander Lyme in The Hunger Games; Game of Thrones Gwendoline Christie Is a Formidable Foe

Hunger Games Casting News: Game Of Thrones star Gwendoline Christie has signed on to join the cast of The Hunger Games. We know she's good at looking out for the kids because she's holding Jamie Lannister to his bond to protect the young Stark woman married to his brother, The Imp. But now Gwendoline Christie will use her imposing presence to lead the rebels against the Capitol. Christie was cast as Commander Lyme. According to Variety, Gwendoline Christie stands 6 feet, 3 inches, an intimidating foe.

"Game of Thrones" star Gwendoline Christie, the formidable, Amazon-looking warrior who failed to save a King and one of the Lannister's hands, has been promoted to a commanding rebel position in "The Hunger Games." Christie is replacing actress Lily Rabe as the Commander Lyme character in Lionsgate's "The Hunger Games: Mockingjay - Part 2." Gwendoline Christie plays the leader of the rebellion in District 2, one of the earliest territories to defy the Capitol. Commander Lyme is also a former victor of the Hunger Games.

English actress Gwendoline Christie, who plays Brienne of Tarth on "Game of Thrones," replaced Lily Rabe, from "American Horror Story" in the final installment of the franchise "The Hunger Games: Mockingjay, Part 2."

"The Hunger Games: Mockingjay" stars Jennifer Lawrence, Josh Hutcherson and Liam Hemsworth as the young rebels; Woody Harrelson as former Hunger Games winner Haymitch, Donald Sutherland as President Snow as well as Sam Claflin, Jena Malone, the late, great Philip Seymour Hoffman and Julianne Moore.

Christie will play a District 2 rebellion leader. Lily Rabe had to drop out of the project because of a scheduling conflict with a production of "Much Ado about Nothing."
The final "The Hunger Games: Mockingjay" book by Suzanne Collins will be split into two movies. Director Francis Lawrence began shooting the two films in Atlanta in September. Production ends later this spring near Paris and Berlin. Lionsgate booked Berlin's Tempelhof Airport, which was reconstructed by the Nazis in 1927, for shooting battle scenes.

The first two "Hunger Games" films have grossed over $1.6 billion worldwide.

"Game of Thrones" returned to HBO last night. You can catch it on demand or on HBO GO, if you missed it. But HBO will be running it almost non-stop anyway. I'll probably watch it twice more myself.

"The Hunger Games: Mockingjay Part 1" hits the big screen on Nov. 21.d "The Hunger Games: Mockingjay - Part 2″ is set to premiere on Nov. 20, 2015.
