Amazon Kindle Phone To Be An AT&T Exclusive, Retailer Giant's First Smartphone Expected To Be Launched Tomorrow

After months of speculation and rumors, the Amazon Kindle phone may finally make its debut tomorrow during the company's scheduled 'mystery' event in Seattle.

But what do we expect from this Android-powered handset?

Based on previous reports, the Kindle phone would pack some pretty serious 3D detection features as it has 5 front sensors which could detect where the user is looking. Now, that's what we call revolutionary. But before we consider it ground-breaking, Amazon should still ensure that this feature works flawlessly and practically.

We will find out tomorrow, June 18 in Seattle, where Amazon has sent out invites to people who requested for them. A video posted by the retailer giant a couple of weeks ago showed people getting excited with the event after seeing the alleged Kindle phone.

Of course we will never know what they saw until tomorrow.

Unfortunately, just a day before the expected unveiling, GSM Arena reports that Wall Street Journal reported that the Amazon Kindle phone would be an AT&T exclusive. While we do not know yet 'how exclusive' it would be (say for the device's first 6 months, year, etc) this is certainly not good for consumers who are tied on other local carriers.

For a company that will launch its first ever smartphone after successful tablet releases, the report said this may not look good for Amazon in the long run, though we can still wait.

Aside from the 5 sensors in front, the Amazon Kindle phone is expected to run on the latest Android version, KitKat, though it would be heavily skinned by the company's own Fire OS which optimizes the use of the Amazon market app rather than Google's Play Store.

So we are just a day away from the expected unveiling of Amazon's first handset. We will make sure to keep you posted.
