Buehrle is 1-10 lifetime in 16 starts against the Yankees, and his 6.02 ERA against New York is higher than any other opponent he's faced.

There were times I made a lot of mistakes, and they made me pay for them," Buehrle said, "and then I made a few good pitches, and they put the ball in play and got some base hits."

Opposing Buehrle will be Chase Whitley (2-0, 2.41 ERA), who has continued to improve to secure his spot in the Yankees' rotation. He's coming off his best outing of the season last Thursday in Seattle, when he went a career-high 7 2/3 innings, allowing just two runs and five hits to the Mariners, pushing him to 2-0 in six starts, according to MLB.com.

"I'm just going out and competing, and pitching the game that I've been pitching since I've been able to pitch at an early age," said Whitley.

The Blue Jays have hit somewhat of a dry spell of late on offense. Toronto is last in the AL in runs (21) and batting average (.218) since June 7 after finishing with six hits Tuesday.

"It was a close game, we were in that thing, we just couldn't mount any offense whatsoever," manager John Gibbons told the Blue Jays' official website.
