Matt Garza (4-4, 4.17 ERA) is coming off a start where he went seven innings and allowed only one run. On Wednesday he'll take the mound again, looking for a cleaner performance as he faces the D-backs in the third game of a four-game series after he had two errors himself.

"Everything felt great. It's a shame that I let it go to waste on throwing errors," said Garza after the 6-5 loss to Cincinnati. "It just [stinks]; I wish we had never been in that spot. My stuff was too good tonight to do something dumb like that."

Wade Miley (3-6, 4.71 ERA) has not won since May 10. The long ball has been a problem for him this year as he has allowed a whopping 16. His last time out, against the Astros, he allowed four runs on seven hits (two homers) in five innings, according to MLB.com.

Catcher Miguel Montero has struggled to throw out basestealers for most of this season, but he's been doing better lately, having retired five of his last eight, according to MLB.com.

"It's tough, because it's like everything, it's confidence," Montero said. "It's a combination -- the pitchers give you time and hold the runners and give you pitches you can handle to throw a guy out. It's another combination if they don't give you time. As a catcher you just try to make up for that time that the pitcher didn't give you, and you just rush, and what happens is you're even slower and you might throw the ball to center field.

"It's like I say to them, 'Help me to help you. If you help me to hold the runners a little bit more, I might help you to throw the guys out and get you out of a jam.'"
