"I know everybody says we have to win every day, but at the same time, there are 29 more teams out there that are competing every day," said shortstop Hanley Ramirez, who homered on Tuesday night but left with a contusion of his right ring finger in the seventh inning.

Dodgers manager Don Mattingly believes that release of tension has translated into an uptick in team morale.

"I think, right now, we feel the energy," said Mattingly. "The whole last road trip I felt like our energy's been good. Our energy's been good this homestand, even in the game we lost. You can feel that mentality. We're fighting."

Kershaw (6-2, 2.93 ERA) is coming off a start where he pitched seven innings and allowed only one run against Arizona. The Rockies do have one of the better offense in the National League, so it could be a big test for Kershaw.

Hanley Ramirez, however, may not be available to help him since he's nursing a bruised right ring finger after being hit by a sharp grounder Tuesday. X-rays were negative, and he left in the seventh after hitting a two-run homer in the third, according to ESPN.com.

"That's great news for us. We obviously dodged a big bullet," catcher A.J. Ellis said. "Hanley's probably the biggest part of our lineup when we're going right. He carried us last year, and I feel like he's getting close to that point where he can carry us again. He's definitely one of the best bats in all of baseball, and we'll be happy to get him back whenever he's ready."
