New Sony Phones 2014: The Xperia Z2a Is The 'Smaller' Version Of Sony's Flagship

Earlier this year, the Japanese manufacturer has announced some new Sony phones for 2014, two of which include the Sony Xperia Z2 and the Xperia Z1 Compact.

But in a new report, the phone maker has been working on a smaller version of the 5.2-inch Xperia Z2.

Accordig to a report by GSM Arena, the Xperia Z2a is a 'smaller' edition of the Sony flagship though not by much. While the Xperia Z2 boasts a 5.2-inch Triluminous screen, the Z2a gets 5 inches . It will also have Full HD (1920 x 1080) resolution so expect great viewing angles and colors from the Xperia Z2a.

In the report, the Xperia Z2a resembles the Xperia ZL2 which is a also a slightly cheaper version of the company flagship and was released in May. However, the ZL2 is currently exclusive to the Japanese market.

So what does the Sony Xperia Z2a offer?

First up is the quad-core CPU clocked at 2.5GHz, which is also present in the Xperia Z2. Other identical specs include Snapdragon 801, 3GB of RAM, and the 20.7MP rear camera that Sony is known for.

The 'smaller' smartphone also runs Android 4.4 Kit Kat, though we are not yet sure which version it will have. But because this is slated to be a cheaper model than the original Sony flagship, the Xperia Z2a puts away the glass casing of the higher end model and wears plastic instead.

Interestingly, the plastic build of the Sony Xperia Z2a does not hinder the device's water and dust resistance, just like its predecessors.

In the report, the Xperia Z2a will be available nex month in Taiwan. While pricing and availability details have not yet been announced, we expect it that it would be several hundred dollars cheaper than the flagship. In addition, the Sony handset could only be available in Taiwan and its neighboring Asian markets.
