Carmelo Anthony News: Former Scoring Champion Will Leave New York, Lakers, Bulls, Rockets Possible Teams?

After leaving the Nuggets several years back, it looks like Carmelo Anthony wants 'greener pastures' so he can finally continue his pursuit of an NBA crown.

According to a report by ESPN, Melo has chosen to opt out his final contract with the Knicks and become a free agent come July 1.

In a statement by his agent Leon Rose, "Carmelo loves being a Knick, he loves the city, and he loves the fans". "At this stage of his career, he just wants to explore his options."

And what options could those be?

According to recent rumors and reports, it is the Chicago Bulls who are eyeing the 30-year-old small forward. The Bulls' Joakim Noah has been reportedly calling for Anthony to be a part of the Windy City team.

In case Anthony finds his new home in Chicago, he would be the sole offensive weapon of a defensive-minded team - that is if Derrick Rose will still be sidelined due to injuries. However, if Rose does play, it could be a different story. Some sources claim that the former MVP wants to play with Kevin Love more than Melo due to the former's 'team play'.

Another ideal option for Anthony would be the Houston Rockets, which already has probably the best two guard in the NBA in James Harden, and the best center in Dwight Howard. While Melo usually plays the three spot, he may be relegated to the fourth position because Chandler Parsons already occupy that spot.

Finally, there is the Los Angeles Lakers which badly needs someone that can score. The Lakers are very capable of giving Anthony any offer which should secure the NBA star's career. However, pursuing a title as a part of the injury-laden Lakers squad may not be part of Melo's wishing list.

We'll see in the coming weeks where Anthony chooses to go.
