Rosie O'Donnel Returns to `The View'; Elisabeth Hasselbeck Says It Was a Liberal Plot

Rosie O'Donnell returned to "The View." Elisabeth Hasselbeck says that was much too easy.

Variety reported that it's official, Rosie O'Donnell will return to "The View" next season as co-host. O'Donnell will join Whoopi Goldberg on the long-running ABC talk show. Elisabeth Hasselbeck, co-hosted on "The View" for 10 years before she joined "Fox & Friends," said it is "not surprising" Rosie O'Donnell had signed on to return to The View.

"I do believe this has been in the works for a long, long time," Hasselbeck said on "Fox & Friends."

Executives at ABC's "The View" have been scouring the planet to find replacements for Sherri Shepherd and Jenny McCarthy, who are on their way out.

"[For O'Donnell] to have such ease the day of Barbara's goodbye show was shocking to me. Would you think that the woman who left the way that she did would be producing [Walters'] goodbye show? Here's the shocker: It was actually [O'Donnell's] hello show."

Elisabeth Hasselbeck was The View's resident Republican and has already had dust-ups with the former standup comedian.

"In comes to 'The View' the very woman who spit in the face of our military, spit in the face of her own network, and really in the face of a person who stood by her and had civilized debates for the time that she was there," said Hasselbeck.

Variety also cited sources confirming that ABC is looking at Meghan McCain, daughter of John McCain, to join The View's panel.

McCain currently co-hosts Pivot's "Take Part Live." She will guest co-host "The View" on Monday, July 14.

For six months O'Donnell hosted a talk-show at OWN, which was cancelled due to low ratings. O'Donnell's return to "The View"comes after she left "The View" in 2007 after just one season.

Right now, "The View" has only one host, Whoopi Goldberg. ABC is not renewing Jenny McCarthy's contract for a second season and confirmed that Sherri Shepherd will not be returning next season. Barbara Walters, who founded "The View," retired from television last month.

Shepherd and McCarthy will remain with the show through Aug. 8. The View's new season is set to begin Sept. 15.
