The Windows Phone 8.1 release date just arrived for some supported devices, though Nokia and Microsoft did not specificallly mention which devices should get it first. 

However, for the Nokia Lumia 930 as well as the Lumia 630/635, that would not be a problem as both devices come with the Windows Phone 8.1 update out of the box. 

In a report by Appliance Retailer, version 8.1 is what Nokia calls as a 'personizable' update for Windows Phone mobile platform. In true enough, the update brings a lot of new features to the table, especially for fans of Microsoft's mobile OS. 

In this update, one primary focus of Microsoft is to make the device easier to customize or personalize. In the phone's home screen, users can now choose among themes. In addition, they can also pick any custom background picture for the entire homescreen while having that themed look based on their preferences. 

One of the Windows Phone 8.1 new updates include a notification center that can be accessed by merely swiping from the top of the screen. It works just like Android's, and for users who have recently switched from the world's most popular platform to the Microsoft underdog, the transition should become much easier. 

Another great addition is the Word Flow keyboard, which works just like the recent stock Google keyboard in that it allows swiping gestures for faster typing of words. It is particularly helpful for people who prefer typing text messages, emails or chats with just the thumb, while the other hand holds the device in portrait mode. 

Syncing content has been also improved in this version of Windows Phone, making it easier for people to share content to other Microsoft devices such as the Xbox, Windows PC, and Windows tablets. 

However, what could be one of the most intriguing functions of the device is the addition of Siri-like voice assistant Cortana, which came from the award-winning game franchise Halo. While connected to the Internet, Cortana can help you with almost anything you need - though that can be an overstatement, we'll have to experience it first before we believe. 

Indeed, Windows Phone 8.1 release date is a step forward in the right direction for both Microsoft and Nokia. We surely hope it would arrive in as may WP devices soon.
