`The Simpsons’ Gets No Animated Emmy Nominations For First Time in 26 Year History

The Simpsons was denied a best animated Emmy nomination for the first time in the 26 years that it's been running.

This is the first year that "The Simpsons" has been shut out of a nomination for Outstanding Animated Program. The show out of Springfield, USA, has nabbed Animated Program nominations from 1990-1992. In 1993 and 1994 it was submitted for Emmys in the Outstanding Comedy Series category. instead. The longest running series returned to the Animated Program category in 1995. It has been nominated for an Animated Program Emmy every year 1995.

This year's nominees in the Outstanding Animated Program category include Archer, which runs on FX; Bob's Burgers, which is on the same network as The Simpsons, Fox; Nickelodeon's Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles and Futurama and South Park, which both run on Comedy Central.

That doesn't mean "The Simpsons" wasn't nominated for any Emmys. Harry Shearer pulled an Outstanding Character Voice-Over Performance for his roles as Kent Brockman, Mr. Burns, Younger Burns and Smithers. The Simpsons was also nominated for Outstanding Sound Mixing For A Comedy Or Drama Series (Half-Hour) And Animation.

"The Simpsons" is the longest-running and most successful comedy series in television history and it's showing no signs of slowing. The show won 28 Emmy Awards, got an Oscar nomination in 2012 for the theatrical short "The Longest Daycare" and was turned into a major motion picture. It spawned toys, games, mini-meals, music videos, a theme park roller coaster ride and at least one dance craze. "The Simpsons" have been on Postal Stamps and was called the "Best Show of the 20th Century" by Time magazine and the "Greatest American Sitcom" by Entertainment Weekly.
