Top Male K-Pop Idols Perform TVXQ's 'Mirotic' at the 2021 SBS Gayo Daejun

On the evening of December 25, the SBS Gayo Daejun 2021 music festival took place successfully in Incheon. This year's theme for the music festival is "Welcome" and marks the first offline Gayo Daejun since 2019. At the festival, artists and fans could interact with each other directly, just like old times.

In addition to the performances from each K-pop group in the line-up, many were also looking forward to seeing the special stages and collaborations of idols from different groups.

This year, SBS Gayo Daejun had a special stage featuring third and fourth-generation male idols performing TVXQ's hit song "Mirotic."

The idols who performed are Stray Kids' Hyunjin, THE BOYZ's Juyeon, SF9's Taeyang, WOODZ (also known Cho Seungyoun of UNIQ) and ASTRO's Moon Bin. These male K-pop idols are known for their impressive dancing and charismatic auras on stage. This led many to anticipate their performance highly.

As expected, following the end of the 2021 SBS Gayo Daejun, the "Mirotic" stage became a hot topic on several South Korean community forums, with posts attracting thousands of comments. However, there were many negative comments concerning the performance, with many unimpressed.

Viewers stated that they did not feel the alluring charm of "Mirotic" and that the performance was lackluster and lacked powerful vocals. Hyunjin, in particular, received the most criticism, with people saying he had the worst performance out of all the other idols performing with him.

Many stated that this cover proves why the fourth generation male idol groups have not been able to debut boy groups with the same skills as stage presence at older groups. Although the male idols were popular, people believed the overall abilities were not enough.

However, some have stood up to defend the male idols, stating that they performed well. Many complimented Woodz and Moon Bin as the two strongest performers, saying that they completed the cover the best.

In terms of vocals, many defended the male idols, saying that they were all dancers in the group. The cover also received backlash for changing the choreography during the original rap part was changed, but people defended that the idols who performed most likely did not have a say in that.
