BIGBANG Daesung Signs With R&D Company, Full-Fledged Activities as Soloist

On April 3, Daesung, a member of the K-pop icon BIGBANG announced its transfer to its new nest, R&D Company after parting ways with YG Entertainment in December last year.

According to the agency's official statement, Daesung with be given a team dedicated to him under the name, "D-Label." Under these people set to work with him, the male icon is expected to embark on full-fledged activities as a solo artist, which is not limited to being a singer but will also expand to musicals, acting, performances and broadcasting.

Following the news that Daesung finally settled on his new company, concerns about BIGBANG's future arose.

Now that he completely left YG, everyone except G-Dragon is the only BIGBANG member remaining under YG Entertainment.

With this move, the media outlet and netters expressed reactions that BIGBANG has virtually been disbanded. The group never confirmed that they will part ways after leaving their original company, but the team is "good as disbanded" according to netizens if they won't be having comebacks as a group.

Although releases are still possible, K-pop enthusiasts speculate that it will take a longer waiting time due to their respective schedules, not to mention that they have to coordinate with each other under four labels now.

At that time, YG maintained its position that the team would not be disbanded, but still, the members left the company one by one.

In particular, member T.O.P is the first one to leave YG in February 2022 ahead of the quartet's much-awaited return to the music scene with the digital single, "Still Life" in April last year.

In December of the same year then, Taeyang and Daesung left YG. The former joined hands with THEBLACKLABEL, a subsidiary of YG, while Daesung transferred to an R&D Company.

Only G-Dragon remains in YG Entertainment, which has been with BIGBANG since its debut. GD announced his return as a soloist as well aiming to be in the second half of 2023. Aside from music, he continues to cement himself as a fashion icon by collaborating with Nike through a new collection, "Nike Kwondo1" set to be released on April 11.
