Sungchan & Shotaro Leave NCT + Idols to Debut in SM's Upcoming Boy Group

Sungchan & Shotaro Depart From NCT, Prepares Debut For SM's Upcoming Boy Group

On May 24, SM Entertainment released an announcement declaring Sungchan and Shotaro's withdrawal from NCT.

In their statement, SM Entertainment apologized to NCTzens who supports NCT. They followed up the future plans of former members Sungchan and Shotaro, who will be concluding their activities with NCT.

However, the agency discussed the two idols' musical direction. It was disclosed that after having an in-depth conversation with Sungchan and Shotaro, who will both debut in the company's upcoming K-pop boy group.

The agency also mentioned that NCT's newest unit will be the final one, which will become a portion of their expansion. The group will feature a great number of Japanese members. Lastly, SM Entertainment kindly encouraged fans to support the artists in their fresh start.

"This is SM Entertainment.

First of all, we would like to thank all the fans who gave their love and support for NCT. In the statement below, we will announce the future plans of Sungchan and Shotaro to everyone.

Sungchan and Shotaro have both delivered impressive performances, during their time as NCT members. However, they will now be closing their segment with NCT, and will debut in a new boy group scheduled for 2023.

We would like to send our sincerest apologies to those who have been waiting for their debut in NCT's new group. We have come to this decision, which reflects the best in our artists' thoughts, artistic and musical direction, after a though discussion.

NCT's infinite expansion will be joined by its newest and final group. We are aiming to launch one group with a unique worldview, that's also a representative of a region's identity. We will also be placing more Japanese members on this group.

Sungchan and Shotaro will have our full support, as well as the NCT members. We kindly ask fans to show continuous love and support to our artists for their endeavors.

Lucas Leaves NCT, SM Entertainment Releases Official Announcement

Meanwhile on May 10, Lucas has also left NCT and WayV.

According to SM Entertainment, the decision for the idol's withdrawal was concluded after a mutual agreement, as the idol will focus on his solo activities. Following this, Lucas took to Instagram, addressing his departure from NCT and WayV.

SM Entertainment remarked:

"After our deliberate discussion with Lucas, we concluded a mutual decision for him to part ways with the groups NCT, as well as WayV, in order to chase his individual endeavors."

"From now on, Lucas is planning to showcase his performances through a variety of solo activities."
