Former SISTAR Soyou Achieves Less Than 1k Sales for 'Summer Recipe,' Only 1 Album on Day 5

In July, "Summer Queen" Soyou returned in the music scene with her second mini-album, "Summer Recipe."

Although her digital performance was pretty decent amid strong competitors like BTS Jungkook and NewJeans, she sparked concerns for her rather low physical sales.

While most idols and even rookies has more than 1k sales on the first day of its release, the K-pop icon who has about 14 years of experience only amassed 226 album sales.

It unfortunately didn't rise and rather got even lower as the days went by, selling as low as 1 album on its fifth day. Her 1st week sales only reached 617 sold copies, while her 1st month sales didn't even reach 1k, only selling 897 albums based on Circle Charts.

When her performance came to K-pop fans' knowledge, they felt sad and pity for the star due to the fact that she used to be overwhelmingly popular both as a member of a girl group and as a soloist.

As a member of SISTAR, the quartet created numerous hits such as "Touch My Body," "Give it to me," Shake It," and more.

Meanwhile as a soloist, she was also well-known for her solo OST songs such as Goblin's "I miss you." In fact, she also received a "daesang" (grand prize), the highest form of awards an idol can receive for her hit track, "Some."

Thus, K-pop fans are curious about what went wrong.

Soyou Opens Up on Having Low Album Sales of 'Summer Recipe': 'Am I too old?'

During an interview with Eric Nam, Soyou then addressed the topic and revealed her true feelings of having low album sales.

She confessed:

"Honestly, what was a bit disappointing was with 'Aloha,' although I'm not the type of person to pay attention to music charts, I had my hopes. But it didn't do as well as I thought."

Despite this, Soyou reflected on the changes the music industry underwent and comforted herself by asking if she was just "too old" to be competing with young artists.

"I felt like the music charts have changed so much. It seems like it became really diffcult to navigate the music industry. I had some concerns about that.

Also, our current juniors are really young. I wonder if 'Am I too old now?"

Regardless of her frustration, Soyou showed her professional side by attesting to fans:

“So that’s why I try to find what I can do best and what people like the most in regards to music.”
