Busker Busker’s Unique Journey in the Music World

Busker Busker has taken a very unique route from their appearance on Mnet's "Superstar K3" as runner-up in 2011 until December 16th of this year, when they announced their activities will stop here.

Considering that they're an audition contestant group, they've had an extraordinary journey in the music world. They released mega hits that shook up the charts, and were involved in many controversies and rumors about disbandment. One thing's for sure, and it's that they're the center of a lot of issues.

Busker Busker came to be known to the public through a very dramatic process. The group was eliminated on "Superstar K3" right before they would start having live shows. However, when another team was dropped, Busker Busker was called back onto the show. Despite the fact that they had been eliminated before, they came up with witty self-composed songs, and won the love of many female fans. They then went on to secure the runner-up spot, and gave an unexpected twist to their 'drama.'

The handsome boy band didn't end their story there. After "Superstar K3" was concluded, their journey took another turn. Unlike the other performers who participate in Mnet's schedules without complaint, Busker Busker decided they didn't want any part in it. They claimed that they were tired and needed time. There was talk of whether or not the group had issues with Mnet itself, and the show's judge Lee Seung Chul publicly expressed his regret at their decision.

This 'misbehaving' band then went on to write the mega hit "Cherry Blossom Ending." Just when the public was getting tired of the electronic sound, Busker Busker appeared with an explosive song that captured the group's charm very well. Although they stood on the line between amateur and professional, their popularity was undeniable. Not only that, all the songs on their album rose to the top of the music charts, and the group effectively changed the flow of popular music with their songs. After that, when they released an album, all the songs would sweep the charts. And it wasn't just the female fans that sought after the group; there were also the male fans and even middle-aged fans that contributed to their popularity.

Busker Busker was a band that was widely sought after. But they surprised the public again with their choice in agency. Although top agencies sent love calls to the group, they declined and stated that rather than broadcast the group wanted to continue as street performers. They didn't make a decision right away. Finally they decided to go with Cheongchoon Music because they had a past with CJ E&M. And even then, their contract was a special one. They decided to be contracted only in terms of albums and concerts, and so they set themselves apart from the other artists who follow the schedules that their agencies set for them. That's why Busker Busker is so hard to see on regular music programs and events.

And that's not all. Kim Hyung Tae was pointed out for having used an 'Ilbe' term, and that became another issue. In an interview with an American media source Brad revealed all behind the scenes stories on "Superstar K," and caused a stir once more.

Jang Beom Jun delivered the latest blow with his decision to get married to Song Ji Soo, his girlfriend of 2 years. At 24, that's a very bold decision considering his relatively young age. And so Busker Busker is ceasing their activities. The agency reported, "They are not disbanding. Jang Beom Jun was scheduled for military enlistment, and the group was scheduled to put a hold on group activities. Although we don't know when it will be, they may release a new album. For now, the members are planning to pursue individual activities."
