Psy's Free Show Live Streaming Crashes Some YouTube Servers

Psy's free concert that attracted 80,000 fans on Thursday night was live streamed for international fans across the globe via YouTube.

However, due to the huge amounts of traffic, which far exceeded expectations, attempting to join the concert online, certain YouTube servers ended up crashing.

A YouTube representative expressed on October 5 to a Korean media, "The servers didn't crash even when we covered MBC's Korean Music Wave back in May. The event included many popular artists such as Girls Generation, Wonder Girls, TVXQ, Super Junior, KARA and more with people from all over the world watching the live stream and had no difficulties watching it. This was surprising for us as well. YouTube takes precautions for live streaming service in case of numerous concurrent connections. A situation like this is unprecedented so we went down to internal maintenance to figure out what happened."

The event that was expected to draw about 50,000, ended up attracting a staggering number of 80,000.

Psy became a worldwide sensation over the past few months with his infectious hit "Gangnam Style" grabbing the top spot in various countries music charts.
