Samsung Chairman Lee Receives Galaxy S3 as 72nd Birthday Gift, K-Pop Girl Group SISTAR Joins Party

Lee Gun-hee, the chairman of Samsung Group, celebrated his 72nd birthday with celebrities and some of the most powerful members of his company at Shilla Hotel in Seoul on January 9.

Similar to last year, about 300 people attended the event, including the CEOs, presidents, and vice presidents of each Samsung branch and their wives.

Guests included Choi Ji-sung, head of the Future Strategy department; Kwon Oh-hyun, vice chairman of Samsung Electronics; Hong Ra-hee, the chairman's wife and director of the Rium Art Gallery; their son Lee Jae-yong, vice president of Samsung Electronics; Lee Bu-jin, CEO of Shilla Hotel; and Lee Seo-hyun, vice president of Cheil Industries.

The dinner started at 6 p.m. and lasted three hours.

Samsung employees gave Lee a Galaxy S3 as a gift. The cell phone's back cover was coated in lacquer, a clear or colored wood finish. The employees had recently heard a lecture about the history and benefits of lacquer from an expert during their regular Wednesday meetings.

Lee's seven grandchildren also prepared a special gift for their grandfather.

To thank his guests for coming, Lee gave everyone a china set.

Singers Shim Soo-bong, Joo Hyun-mi, Kim Yeon-ja, and SISTAR also attended the event. According to reports, SISTAR, a popular K-Pop girl group, brightened up the atmosphere by entertaining the guests.

Meanwhile, after the party, Lee Jae-yong and Kwon, the vice president and vice chairman of Samsung Electronics, left for Las Vegas to attend CES 2013, the biggest electronics convention of the year.
