Samsung Smart Watch Release Date: Rumored Gadget Called Galaxy Gear To Be Unveiled Sept. 4, Device Will Let You Make Phone Calls, Send Emails

Samsung Smart Watch now has an unofficial release date, according to a report by Bloomberg. The device dubbed as Galaxy Gear, lets you make phone calls, send emails and surf the web and it will be unveiled on September 4. The reported released date of the Samsung Smart Watch is two days before the IFA consumer electronics show in Berlin.

According to the Bloomberg report, reps from Samsung could not be reached for comment and the article did not outline the price of the gadget. Technical specs on the Samsung Smart Watch are not immediately accessible, but according to the article it will not have a flexible display.

The Galaxy Gear will run on an Android operating system and will go on sale later this year to beat a potentially competing product from Apple, Inc., according to sources of the Bloomberg report.

The South Korean tech giant is in the race to beat other electronics makers, the likes of Sony and Apple, to create a new industry of wearable devices as the market’s top-end handsets nears saturation. The global watch industry is expected to generate more than $60 billion in sales this year, and the first companies to sell devices that multitask could possibly lock customers into their platform, boosting sales of smartphones, tablets and TVs.

Apple to compete with own wearable gadget

The report also noted that Apple had a team of about 100 designers working on a watch-like device, two people familiar on the matter disclosed to Bloomberg in February. The Cupertino tech giant aims to introduce the device this year, which many says is called the iWatch.

Bloomberg also reported last July month that Apple filed for the trademark “iWatch” name in Japan. The trademark application was filed on June 3 through the Japan Patent Office, a few weeks after Apple filed for the “iWatch” trademark in Russia.

In an interview with All Things Digital, Apple CEO Tim Cook, was artfully reserved when asked consistently about the possibility of wearable Apple computer.

"There's nothing that's gonna convince a kid who has never worn glasses, or a band, or a watch, or whatever, to wear one. Or at least I haven't seen it. So I think there's lots of things to solve in this space,” Tim Cook said, while wearing a Nike Fuel bracelet, which is a regular piece in his day-to-day apparel.

“But, it's an area that's ripe for exploration, it's ripe for us all getting exciting about."

He added in the same interview that Apple “has several more game changers in us
