Why Is Laura Prepon Leaving 'Orange Is The New Black'? No One Knows, But Lesbians Everywhere Saddened

Laura Prepon might be leaving "Orange Is The New Black", saddening lesbians everywhere.

Laura Prepon had a critically acclaimed, crucial role...but she may be leaving the "Orange Is The New Black" for good.

Netflix has denied the report, but Buzzfeed said that actress Laura Prepon will not be a regular in Season 2, citing unnamed sources close to the show.

Netflix said that the rumors of Prepon's departure are "not accurate. Our season is still developing and nothing is confirmed."

This means, in essence, that she might leave, but that it's not set in stone-or that's how some have interpreted the news.

"Weeds" creator Jenji Kohan's show is about a middle-class New Yorker serving time in women's prison.

Prepon plays Alex, a convicted international drug trafficker and the sometime love interest of main character Piper (Taylor Schilling).

Prepon is theoretically coming back to the show to finish her storyline, then leaving the show.

As the show is about incarcerated women, it makes sense that convicts would be released (and occasionally return)...but Prepon's departure is a shock, as she was a key part of the show.

Prepon recently seemed happy with her role, praising her time on the show. She said in a recent interview that Alex was"an awesome character ... It's cool because, as a female actress, you always try to look for roles that are challenging, different and new. It's hard to find something like that. When we read roles, it's usually another f--king typical female role. When I read this script, there were so many rad roles, so when I read Alex I loved her."

Buzzfeed reported that "One of [Prepon's] agents responded to an email by saying he could not discuss the show, and her publicist did not immediately answer an email asking why Prepon would leave 'Orange Is the New Black.'"
