'Game Of Thrones' Season 4 Spoilers: King's Landing Filming Begins In Croatia; Will It Also Be The Set For Kingdom Of Dorne?

"Game of Thrones" season 4 spoilers: filming has just begun in Croatia. The coastal, walled city of Dubrovnik has been used as the set for "Game of Thrones" King's Landing, the capital of the Seven Kingdoms of Westeros, in previous seasons. But the cast and crew will also film in Split this year. Will it be the set for the Kingdom of Dorne?

According to WinterIsComing.net, "Game of Thrones" will be filmed in Dubrovnik from August 20th through September 20th.

The famous walls of Dubrovnik offered "Game of Thrones" executive producers D.B. Weiss and David Benioff a match made in heaven, PolicyMic.com reports.

In an HBO production video, Weiss says that, "To find a full-on, immaculately preserved, medieval-walled city that looks uncannily like King's Landing, where the bulk of our show is set, that was, in and of itself, just such an amazing find."

Because Dubrovnik is such a perfect fit for "Game of Thrones," a lot of the scenes can be filmed naturally, with minimal CGI and set building, and few edits to cut out real-world elements, such as hotels and cruise ships, PolicyMic.com reports.

Dubrovnik's stone streets and golden, Mediterranean light suit multiple roles in "Game of Thrones;" in addition to King's Landing, the city serves as the site of the Red Keep, Blackwater Bay, Qarth, and the countryside, according to PolicyMic.com.

"Game of Thrones" will also shoot in a new city in Croatia: Split. Shooting of season 4 will shift to Split from September 20th through October 10th, WinterIsComing.net reports. Split is about 140 miles northwest of Dubrovnik.

There is no word yet on what role Split will play in the world of Westeros, PolicyMic.com reports. Season 4 will introduce House Martell, so it is possible that Split could be filling in for the kingdom of Dorne and its capital, Sunspear.
