Valerie Harper Cancer Update: Doctors Say Her Terminal Brain Cancer Is 'Pretty Close to Remission;' Makes Her Feel Like Dancing With the Stars

Valerie Harper’s cancer is “pretty close to remission,” and the news has the “Rhoda” actress hitting the dance floor.

In a televised hour-long special interview with Meredith Viera on NBC, Valerie Harper spread the good news that her cancer is nearing remission.

Initial reports on Valerie Harper's cancer diagnosis said she would have only three months to live. Six months have passed and doctors are saying Valerie Harper’s cancer battle is taking a miraculous turnaround.

Valerie Harper’s cancer didn’t slow the 74-year-old down much. She’s been acting and it was recently revealed that Valerie Harper will be joining “Dancing the Stars” along with Lee Remini, fresh off her publicized departure from the Church of Scientology. The parting had its own drama as Lee Remini filed a missing person’s report for Scientology leader David Miscavage's wife, Shelly and other bizarre turns.

Valerie Harper will be paired dancing pro Tristan MacManus on “Dancing With the Stars.”

In a segment on this morning’s “Today” show, Valerie Harper’s cancer doctor Valerie Harper’s prognosis appears to be more promising. Neuro-oncologist Jeremy Rudnick told Meredith Vieira "I'd say that we're getting pretty close to a remission. It defies the odds."

Valerie Harper told NBC's Meredith Vieira “A lot of stuff that looks impossible is not, and every day there's evidence of it. I just want to live every moment to the fullest. Spontaneous remission lives as a possibility … I think infinite possibility is beautiful in every area. A lot of stuff that looks impossible is not, and every day there's evidence of it."

Dr. Rudnick pointed out that Valerie Harper’s cancer has a good chance of coming back, especially if it “develops a resistance to therapy.” He cautioned "It's not a matter of if (the cancer becomes resistant. It's a matter of when."

Valerie Harper’s husband Tony Cacciotti said “Going from having three months to live, or less; we're into our sixth month, and now there's even hope beyond right now we're looking at,"

"We're looking at Christmas!" Valerie Harper finished for him.

In the meantime, Valerie Harper is already practicing with partner Tristan MacManus.

The new cast of "Dancing with the Stars" won't be announced until next week, but Valerie Harper would probable be dancing anyway.

The "Dancing with the Stars" season 17 cast will be announced Sept. 4 on "Good Morning America."

The full documentary will be broadcast on NBC on Sept. 19 at 10 p.m. ET on NBC.
