Amanda Bynes Mental Illness Update: Amanda Bynes could stay in the hospital until the end of the year to treat her mental health and possible schizophrenia symptoms.

Bynes was recently transferred to UCLA to treat her mental illness and schizophrenia symptoms.  Her mother who is her conservator approved the treatment.  UCLA is one of the best psychiatric facilities in the country, so Amanda Bynes should receive good treatment.

According to a source for Radar Online, "[Doctor's have] been observing Amanda, and there has been some improvement ... However, her diagnosis is complex, and the appropriate drug cocktail to treat her hasn't been achieved yet."

"Therefore, her treatment team believes Amanda would benefit from prolonged treatment at UCLA, for at least the rest of the year.

"She has her good days and bad days, and the goal is obviously to get her therapeutic and stable before being released."

Some sources are saying Amanda Bynes mental illness is possibly PTSD? Research suggests schizophrenia symptoms may be connected to childhood trauma.

According to Fox News, Amanda Bynes has PTSD (post-traumatic stress disorder), which stems in part from the pressures of her Hollywood career as a Nickelodeon child star.   According to a story in Science Daily, researchers have linked schizophrenia symptoms to childhood trauma.  PTSD can also be a result of childhood trauma.  No one knows exactly what causes schizophrenia symptoms, but trauma may be one possible ingredient.

A source told Fox News "Amanda has made significant improvements, she is doing better than she was.  There are no drug problems involved, it's all mental. She has deep anger and PTSD, which tripped a psychotic episode... She is very ill, but manageable. Amanda genuinely wants to get better and has wanted to get better for some time."
