The ex-girlfriend of North Korean leader Kim Jong Un was allegedly executed, along with 11 others, by firing squad after the group made and sold a sex tape. Watch a video of Hyon Song Wol below.
Unconfirmed reports say that Hyon Song Wol, Kim Jong Un's ex-girlriend, was killed by a machine gun.
Hyon Song Wol was a singer in North Korea's popular Unhasu Orchestra. She was killed by machine gun execution along with 11 members of the orchestra and of the Wangjaesan Light Music Band, another famous North Korean state-run music group.
The families of Hyon Song Wol and the others were forced to watch the execution.
The Chosun Ilbo, South Korea's largest daily newspaper, reports that the group was arrested for filming and selling a sex tape. A source from China says that the group was arrested August 17th for filming and selling a pornographic video of themselves.
The families of those arrested were forced to watch the execution, then sent to prison camps in North Korea.
The report, which cites an anonymous source in China, says the group was arrested Aug. 17 for filming and selling a pornographic video featuring themselves. The clip reportedly found its way across the border to China. Their families were forced to watch the execution, which took place three days later, and were then sent to the country's notorious prison camps, the source said.
Hyon and Kim dated in the early 2000s, after Kim came back from a Swiss boarding school. But she disappeared from the public eye in 2006, after her fame peaked in 2005.
Around this time, Kim Jong Il allegedly ordered Hyon to quit the orchestra to separate from his son, whom he was grooming to be Supreme Leader.
It is rumored that Hyon married an officer in the North Korean army and had a son. However, later rumors whispered that Kim and Hyon had rekindled their romance. The two may hae been photographed together at a concert in Pyongyang last summer; other reports say that it was Ri Sol-Ju, Kim's wife.
Ri was also a member of the Unhasu Orchestra before she married Kim.
Some say that because Hyon was Kim's ex-girlfriend, the execution may have ulterior motives.
