Zayn Malik Admits One Direction Fans Can Be ‘Overwhelming’ But Never ‘Too Much;’ 'This Is Us' Rakes In $18 Million At Box Office Labor Day Weekend

Zayn Malik admitted that One Direction fans, who call themselves Directioners, can sometimes get out of hand with their enthusiasm while the One Direction boys promote their movie "This Is Us." But Zayn Malik said that it never is "too much."

The 20-year-old Zayn Malik admitted that things can get intense with the One Direction fans while promoting "This Is Us."

"It's always interesting. Normally they scream and there's a bit of a shake," he revealed to British magazine Star, The Belfast Telegraph reports.

"They kinda jump on you, but it's cool either way. It gets overwhelming. Too much? No, definitely not," he added.

But even overly-enthusiastic teenage girls weren't enough to overcome Oprah Winfrey at the box office this Labor Day weekend, The Los Angeles Times reports.

The film "The Butler," starring Oprah, came out on top at the box office for the third consecutive weekend.

"One Direction: This Is Us" sold more tickets between Friday and Sunday than "The Butler." But the civil rights drama's four-day tally was $20 million, according to an estimate from distributor the Weinstein Co. The One Direction film has so far collected a healthy $18 million, including ticket sales from Thursday evening screenings, The Los Angeles Times reports.

The combination of "The Butler" and "This Is Us" made this weekend the biggest Labor Day on record for the box office, not adjusting for inflation, according to The Los Angeles Times. All movies released over the long weekend grossed a total of $157 million, which beat 2007's $148-million haul.

Roughly 87% of the audience of "This Is Us" were women, and 65% were under the age of 17.
