MV Review of G-Dragon's "COUP D'ETAT": Yay or Nay?

There is no one in K-pop that gets it like G-Dragon does. He understands what it takes to break the barriers that stand between being a simple pop singer and being a true artist and if he keeps going down the road he is currently on, he can most definitely become an icon in Korean pop music.

"COUP D'ETAT" has everything we love in a G-Dragon music video. The out-of-the-box concept, the crazy looks, the subtle movements, the hair, the style, and the make-up. The song itself is not your usual radio head bopper but it sets itself apart from all the bubblegum pop hits and stands in its own category. His last single, "Michigo," was a fun, crazy tune but "COUP D'ETAT" has a dark element that gives us the other side of G-Dragon we haven't seen in a long time.

Visually, the video carries a Tim Burton-esque feel that makes it one of a kind. I love the artistry and the careful designs, props, and make-up. Every scene sucks you in and you never know what's coming next. This is why I adore G-Dragon, he just gets it and it comes out in the product of his work. Always innovative, always something different, and never conforms to the norm.

The video has got a message and the message is that JiYoung is rising and G-Dragon is dead, well that is until YG needs Big Bang to make a comeback again. The whole video screams that message and it's apparent that a part of G-Dragon wants to throw away with all that K-pop bubbly-ness and come out with the real goods, and he does it with every single solo video and song he releases.

I say this always and I'll say it again-G-Dragon is the artist to beat. No male artist is on his level and no one does it the way he does, period, end of story. I give "COUP D'ETAT" a Yay and I would love to hear your thoughts in the comments below!
