Benedict Cumberbatch Trades ‘Star Trek’ For ‘Star Wars Episode 7’ Role? Harrison Ford Was ‘Coolest Thing Ever,’ He Says

Will Benedict Cumberbatch trade "Star Trek" with the franchise's rival "Star Wars?" Rumors are circulating that Benedict Cumberbatch has a role in the upcoming "Stars Wars Episode 7" film.

According to Film Chronicles, Benedict Cumberbatch may be the first name to be unveiled for the cast of "Star Wars Episode 7," although it is not yet known which role Benedict will take on as the plot has been kept top secret, Entertainmentwise.com reports.

Cumberbatch played the villain Khan for JJ Abrams in this summer's "Star Trek Into Darkness," and the website notes that there have been clues that Cumberbatch will reunite with Abrams for the newest installment of "Star Wars." For example, Cumberbatch recently pulled out of Guillermo del Toro's horror movie "Crimson Peak." Although The Hollywood Reporter claimed it was not due to a conflict with another project, the movie is set to go into production at the same time as Episode 7, Entertainmentwise.com reports.

Earlier this year, Benedict told Total Film that starring in "Star Wars" would fulfill his childhood dream.

"I've already asked him if I can be a lightsaber and we're in talks - about whirring sounds and the rates for the lights and everything," Cumberbatch joked.

The actor also revealed that he was a huge Han Solo fan growing up, rather than a Trekkie, Entertainmentwise.com reports.

"I was much more connected to [Star Wars] as a kid, in the way that a lot of kids are because it's immediate storytelling, very simple - a beautifully, outrageously simple narrative in a way - and a wonderful three-act melodrama, opera. And I loved them," Cumberbatch said.

"I really, really loved those films and I always wanted to be Han Solo," he added. "Everything Harrison Ford did I just thought was the coolest thing ever."

If Cumberbatch is cast in the film, it is expected that he would join Harrison Ford, Mark Hamill and Carrie Fisher, who are believed to reprise their original roles in "Star Wars."
