Long Beach Police Beating Video: Watch Tasers, Batons Used To Tame Man As People Scream For Him To Be Let Go - Girlfriend Says He Sees People That Aren't There

Long Beach police beating video: Alleged victim has mental issues, according to his girlfriend.

Lee Ann Hernandez told the Los Angeles Times that her boyfriend, Porfirio Santos-Lopez, has recently acted paranoid and out-of-sorts but did not deserve the Monday beating that was shown in the video of Long Beach police beating that one patron filmed while a dozen cops tried to tame Lopez in Long Beach, Calif.

The Long Beach police beating video has surfaced on YouTube and media outlets have shown the video on different telecast. People near the situation are shown in the video screaming to let Lopez go, but the police never did. They used Taser and batons to beat him with while trying to cuff him after he got into a fight with two other men.

"He's not the one to go out and fight," Hernandez told the Times. "His mind was probably agitated and he wasn't himself. He thinks my late husband is here. He thinks he's angry and he's trying to hurt him."

She said that he's been hearing voices in his head recently and seeing people in their home that really aren't there.

Santos-Lopez will be booked after his release from the hospital, where he was being treated for a broken arm and other injuries, Hernandez told the Times.

The officers involved in the incident remained on duty Wednesday and a standard use-of-force investigation has begun, Eaton said.

"The baton and the Taser are tools for us to use and get a combative subject into custody," Long Beach police Sgt. Aaron Eaton said in a statement. "In this case, the suspect was adamant that he was not going to roll over onto his stomach. When you look at the initial video, it just doesn't look good. We want to refrain from using that judgment on a first impression."
