Thor The Dark World’s ‘Loki’ Gets Lots Of Attention With Marvel’s “Free Loki Sweepstakes;” Tom Hiddleston Talks About Role [VIDEO]

Thor: The Dark World, the second instalment in Marvel's Thor movies, features Loki in another vital position in the film -- only this time, the god of thunder asks this god of mischief for help in defeating a new (rather, an old) enemy: the Dark Elves of Svartalfheim led by Malekith the Accursed.

Played by Tom Hiddleston, Thor's adopted brother was the antagonist in the first Thor movie as well as in Avengers.  Things are not quite the same in this one, however, because the opposing sides must join forces and forge an unlikely alliance in facing the new threat.

The 32-year old English actor spoke with MTV News recently about his role in Thor 2.  He said, "Loki has a very complicated relationship with Thor."

"He is an agent of chaos without equal in the world he inhabits," he explained. "He knows his true nature. He knows he doesn't belong in the family of Asgard, and he's locked away in the beginning of the film in the deepest, darkest recesses of the dungeon as public enemy number one."

And when Asgard - and the universe - is threatened, he said, "Lo and behold, Asgard needs his help.  That's going to be a very complicated allegiance."

Super villain he might be, but Loki is well-loved by the followers of the Marvel movies.  The company had just put up a fun campaign in Twitter called #FreeLokiSweeps (see rules here).

One twit says, "Tweet #FreeLokiSweeps to help free the Trickster God from his Asgardian prison for a chance to win a #Loki t-shirt signed by @twhiddleston!"

Hiddleston, who cosplayed in this year's San Diego Comic Con International, had quite a reception during the event.

Thor: The Dark World also features Chris Hemsworth as Thor and Natalie Portman as Jane Foster.  Movie-goers can also expect to see Stellan Skarsgard, Idris Elba, Christopher Eccleston, Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje, Kat Dennings, Ray Stevenson, Zachary Levi, Tadanobu Asano, and Jaimie Alexander.  Renee Russo reprises her role as Frigga and Anthony Hopkins comes back as Odin.

The movie will hit theatres in the US on November 8.
