Samsung Galaxy Note 12.2 Rumors: Will Samsung Really Release A 12-inch Tablet? Why The Recently Discovered New Device Makes Sense For The Tech Giant

Rumors of a Samsung Galaxy Note 12.2 sprung right after the Samsung Unpacked event in Berlin where we saw the unveiling of a Samsung Galaxy Note 3 and the new Samsung Galaxy Gear smartwatch.

The render of the 12.2-inch tablet, which was first spotted with the model number SM-P900 is a complete breakaway from the size of the current stable of tablets in the market. Apple’s iPad is only 9.5 inches in height and 7.31 inches in width. The 10-inch tablets like the Google Nexus 10, Asus Transformer, Galaxy Note 10.1 and Tab 2 10.1, would probably be the biggest so far in the market. If this product does come to pass, the alleged Samsung Galaxy Note 12.2 would be the biggest in the market.

This device would make sense for Samsung to release, because if there’s one thing that the South Korean tech giant does well is aggressively pushing new devices in the market in the name of saturating the market. This has been evident in the launch of a complete line of Galaxy S phones to compete head-to-head with the Nexus handsets and the current standard-bearer of handsets, the iPhone.

The aggressive marketing and nonstop proliferation of new Samsung devices flooding the market, especially in the U.S. is bearing fruit for the company. In the U.S., Samsung is the only smartphone vendor that posted a double-digit climb in market share in July 2013. It currently holds 24.1% of the market, with Apple still dominating with 40.4% of the market, pre-iPhone 5C and iPhone 5S releases.

In China, Samsung surged to become the second most dominant tablet manufacturer in the country’s tablet-computer market with an 11 percent share, according to Bloomberg. It wouldn’t be far fetched then that the company would continue to ride its growth momentum by pushing more products, with diverse range and models, in both the U.S. and other key markets.

Being first always has an advantage in the tech market, as Apple has proven with the iPad and iPhone. Even the former star of the mobile device sector, Nokia (which was recently acquired by Microsoft), has caught buzz and widespread consumer interest when it released the first handset with ultra camera specs of 41 megapixels.

Android Headlines who first saw the Bluetooth listing that revealed the 12.2-inch tablet, reported that the specs of the Samsung Galaxy 12.2 include a 2560 x 1600 pixels resolution display, similar to the Galaxy Note 10.1 2014 edition. It will also be probably S-pen enabled. Other prediction on the tablet’s specs includes the capability to simultaneously use all eight cores in the Exynos 5 Octa chip it will have. The Exynos 5 Octa SoC is an in-house chipset by Samsung.

A leaked render of the device by Moveplayer reveals more details about the upcoming gadget that could well break the records on the standard size of a tablet. Android Community says it will have a physical home button on its forward facing surface right at the bottom. This has so far only been on its smartphones, some of the phablets and the 8in tablets.
