Windows Phone Sales: Microsoft's Mobile Platform Finally Inching Towards 2-Digit Market Share In Europe

In spite reports regarding Microsoft's buyout of Nokia, there are still some consumers who trust the Finnish brand. In recent figures, Windows Phone sales have increased in the several European markets, and it is just an inch away from the two-digit mark in market share.

According to Kantar Worldpanel's data, Nokia's Windows Phone handsets have penetrated 9.2% of five major markets in Europe in August, thanks in part to the huge success of its entry-level smartphones such as the Lumia 520 and 620.

Dominic Sunnebo, an analyst in the firm, said that "Windows Phone's latest wave of growth is being driven by Nokia's expansion into the low and mid range market". Sunnebo also pointed out that Nokia's entry-level smartphone lineup has piqued the interest of consumers in their late teens (16-24 year olds), as well as those who are probably getting smartphones for the first time (ages 35 - 49).

Kantar says with the consistent rise in Windows Phone usage in European markets, Android's market share would eventually go down but not that much. Meanwhile, Blackberry OS's share has dropped to an all-time low of 2.4%.
