Beginning October 16, Xbox Live Gold members can already play the first-person shooter game for free, as posted on TechnoBuffalo. This free game can be downloaded for free until the end of October.

Halo 3, according to its Wikipedia page, was developed by Bungie for the Microsoft Xbox 360 console. It was released in September 2007 in Europe and in countries like US, Australia, Brazil, New Zealand, and Japan.

Clash of Heroes and Halo are part of Microsoft's offering called Games With Gold program, which provides two free games for Xbox Live Gold members every month. This program is similar to Sony's Instant Game Collection, which offers "Shadows of the Colossus HD", "Hotline Miami", "Poker Night 2", and "Kingdoms of Amalur: Reckoning" as free PS3 and PS Vita titles this October.

Games with Gold program is expected to run until December 2013 and the free games released for the Xbox Live Gold members are theirs to keep, even after their subscription expires.
