iPad Mini 2 Release Date: Retina Mini Supplies May Not Be Enough For 2013 Release, Might Hit Stores Early Next Year

When Apple launched the iPad mini, everyone thought it to be the best tablet in its screen size category, but they also agreed it is missing just one important component - the Retina display. This month, Apple is rumored to be announcing its new lineup of tablets and other devices, but according to news sources, the iPad mini 2 release date may not even be this year.

According to unnamed sources of Reuters, Apple has yet begun manufacturing Retina displays for the iPad mini 2, and with this pace, the device may not have enough units even for a holiday release.

At the same time, the sources also mentioned that the Cupertino company is putting pressure on suppliers to reduce costs, which could mean a variation with just 8GB of memory. While such a variant can target the entry-level tablet consumers, it may hurt the company in the long run.

The sources said the iPad mini 2 would have enough stocks by early next year.

But just in case, Apple may still release limited stocks for the iPad mini 2 this December. We'll keep you posted on this update.
