Tom Clancy, Best-Selling Spy Author, Dies at 66

Tom Clancy, who is best known for technically detailed post-Cold War spy novelsm died at the age of 66.

Tom Clancy’s best-selling novels have been made into films like ”The Hunt for Red October” and “Patriot Games,”

According to the New York Times, Tom Clancy’s publisher confirmed that he died in a Baltimore hospital on Tuesday.

Tom Clancy is probably best known for his Jack Ryan series, which turned into the movies included “The Hunt for Red October,” “Patriot Games,” “Clear and Present Danger,” and “The Sum of All Fears.”

Tom Clancy’s work went beyond the usual fare for an author. Besides having so many of his books made into blockbuster movies, Tom Clancy novels have been made into video games. Tom Clancy’s NetForce novel was adapted as a television movie, starring Scott Bakula and Joanna Going.

Tom Clancy founded the Red Storm Entertainment, a videogame company that was sold to Ubisoft, who still used the Tom Clancy name for games like the “Ghost Recon” series, “Rainbow Six” and “Splinter Cell.”
