Grand Theft Auto Movie In The Works? It may be a big question to everyone's minds for a film adaptation of one of the most interactive and violent at the same time open world game could be seen in the big screen.
Speculations and rumors from fans think that this movie idea wouldn't work like any other game that previously work as a film adaptation.
In a forum in Gamespot.com, a fan proposed that: "It hasn't been made into a movie simply because it could be any hollywood action movie already out there, there isn't anything terribly unique about it as a concept."
Stealing cars, killing people, drugs, money and other mafia related crimes are not a new thing on the big screen. Fans say that making Grand Theft Auto a movie would be something people already have seen.
Take-Two Interactive, the developer of Grand Theft Auto meanwhile, says that making the game into a movie may be lucrative but has a great risk involved.
"If you're going to invest in a movie--you can make a lot of money on movies--but as a licensor, you've got to look at what the success rate is, what the movie has to do for you to generate substantial economics that are worth taking the risk," president Karl Slatoff said.
"So if it's a bad movie, does that hurt your franchise or not? So there is always a balance that has to be struck there. But obviously, we consider those inbound requests. We take those inbound requests. So it's something we consider at this point, but again it's not core to what we do."
Same insight goes for Rockstar Games cofounder Dan Houser, who was offered numerous movie opportunities for the game but said they'd rather focus more on the game that making a film adaptation out of it.
"We love movies, but we also love games and that is what we remain focused on. If we were to attempt to make a movie, we would like to make it ourselves, or at least work in collaboration with the best talent, so at least if it is bad, we can know we failed on our own terms," Houser said at the time.
Meanwhile, actors who could be casted for a role if ever there will be a Grand Theft Auto movie circles the web as Screenrant.com poses possible actors who could possibly play Niko Bellic from GTA 4, Carl Johnson from San Andreas or even Tommy Vercetti from Vice City.
Fans said that it would be perfect to see Walking Dead's Jon Bernthal, who played shane to cast as Tommy, Michael B. Jordan from Friday Night Lights my pass for a CJ role and Jason Statham, who have resemblances from Niko.
