NBA Draft 2014: Aaron Gordon On Boston Celtics Radar! Athletic Forward Combines Shawn Marion And Blake Griffin!

The NBA Draft 2014 is three weeks away, and one of the most anticipated batch of rookies will finally joint their teams. Aaron Gordon of Arizona was once considered for the top spot, but expectations have winded down.

But that may actually serve him better. If he falls out of the top 5, he would head way East to the Boston Celtics who have the no. 6 pick.

The report from SI.com:

"Several league sources believe that Celtics GM Danny Ainge is locked in on Gordon. While Gordon's shooting is a concern, he is a strong rebounder and shot blocker who can defend either forward spot and has been compared to Shawn Marion. A trade is possible here, too. Ainge is always on the lookout for a make a blockbuster deal, and with Boston's assets he is more than equipped to do so."

SB Nation has their scouting report on Gordon, who has also been mentioned as a sleeker Blake Griffin, although that's more about physical resemblance and athleticism. Based on this report, the Shawn Marion comparison seems more accurate:

"Aaron Gordon is basketball's version of a five-tool player. He's a versatile forward who can play multiple different roles on both ends of the floor. Standing 6'9 in shoes and measuring with a 6'11.75 wingspan, the former Arizona Wildcat has a diverse skill set. He can handle the ball in a pick-and-roll or serve as the screener and defend both positions. He's quick laterally for his size, a bullet running out in the open court, and he recorded a 39-inch vertical at the combine.

That makes him a menace on the break. He's a better-than-expected ball-handler at his size, able to corral a defensive rebound and take it all the way in transition himself. Or he can fill the wing, outrun slow-footed forwards downcourt and catch lobs over the top.

Gordon is defined by his versatility. He guarded all five positions at Arizona, played in the post, on the perimeter and served as an extra ball-handler. Not many 6'9 forwards can handle the ball in the pick-and-roll."

The Boston Celtics are definitely making some changes and the roster they have is by no means final. Not even Rajon Rondo is safe at this point. Acquiring a versatile and flexible player like Gordon is definitely a must.
