Josh Collmenter (4-2, 3.34 ERA) will take the mound for the D-Backs after a complete game where he faced the minimum for what was a shutout victory. He is the second pitcher in the franchise's history along with Randy Johnson to do so.
"That's always the key for me, is if I can throw my fastball for strikes and let all the breaking balls and changeups play off of that," Collmenter said Thursday following his masterpiece. "And if I can stay down in the zone, even if I might be over the plate a little bit I tend to get balls off the end of the bat or underneath some of the high popups.
"So that's really been a focus, fastballs down, and making sure that I'm moving it in and out, but mainly keep it down so it's tough for them to get the barrel of the bat to it."
Jordan Lyles 5-1, 3.46 ERA) looks to keep his solid season going with Colorado. Lyles has struggled through his last three turns, giving up 10 earned runs and 11 walks over 14 1/3 innings. He lasted just five in a no-decision at Philadelphia on Wednesday.
"I think he's had an outing or two where he hasn't thrown as many strikes," Rockies manager Walt Weiss said. "But he's been very effective with the exception of one outing. If he keeps doing that I'm good with it. He's given us a chance to win just about every time out. He's been a big lift to our rotation."
