Doug Fister (3-1, 3.34 ERA) will be on the mound for the Nats as he comes off winning his third straight start after allowing two runs in six innings in a 10-2 victory over the Rangers on Saturday. Fister will face the Phillies for the second time in his career.
The Nats scored nine or more runs in two of those games and combined to score 29 runs in all four games, according to MLB.com.
"Run support in general is always an important stat," Fister said. "It's something that's not only a number thing, it's a morale booster, it's a momentum builder, it's everything that a team wants to do, and it's kind of the equivalent to a pitcher going out there and putting up zeros."
Kyle Kendrick (1-5, 4.21 ERA) will be on the mound looking to build off a decent start. Kendrick did well to limit the Mets in his 113-pitch effort on Saturday. He allowed four earned runs, but was one strike away from his seventh quality start. Kendrick will have to fare better in the first inning, where he has a 9.82 ERA, according to MLB.com.
