Gabby Douglas Returns To U.S. Gymnastics Training Camp Alongside Kyla Ross: McKayla Maroney Celebrates Birthday With Aly Raisman
Olympic gymnastics champion Gabby Douglas is slowly making her comeback in time for the 2016 Olympics in Rio.
Universal Sports reports that on June 2, Gabby Douglas attended the U.S. Women's National Team camp, hosted by National Team Coordinator Martha Karolyi. This is her first time returning to the crucial training camp since her win at the 2012 Olympic Games in London.
“This is still the beginning stage,” said her coach Liang Chow according to NBC. “We’re working on the physical things. We have to put all the pieces together. Everything has to be falling together. In maybe one or two more months, I can give you a much clearer picture.”
Of the Fierce Five, Gabby Douglas was joined by Kyla Ross, who recently placed second in the all-around at the World Championships as well as the Pacific Rim Championships in April.
Interestingly enough, despite McKayla Maroney competing last year and Aly Raisman reportedly returning to training, the two names were not listed in the June training camp roster. Reportedly, Maroney underwent knee surgery in March.
