Upcoming Android Tablets 2014: Samsung Works With Digital Company For Budget Android Slate, Specs Incl. 7" Display, 1.5GB RAM, Quad-Core CPU

There are a number of new and upcoming Android tablets coming this 2014, and most of them are from Samsung. However, it looks like another company wants to work with the Korean manufacturer to release another Android-powered slate in the US market.

According to a recent report by GSM Arena, digital products company B&N is working with Samsung on an Android tablet which would be aimed at its target market in the US.

Simply named as the Galaxy Tab 4 Nook, the device should focus heavily on e-book apps and functions. In the report, the Galaxy Tab 4 Nook packs an 7-inch display with 1280 x 800 resolution, a 1.5GB RAM for smooth scrolling and 'page flipping', a 1.2GHz quad-core Cortex-A7 CPU, and a microSD card slot.

As seen from the specs above, the Galaxy Nook should be very similar to the freshly announced Galaxy Tab 4 slate. That could also mean a potentially cheap price tag.

The Galaxy Tab 4 Nook would not get the usual TouchWiz UI Samsung, but the Nook's own Android skin. In the report, the device is expected to be heavily skinned, though we are not expecting the new device to place Play Store restrictions.

However, B&N made it clear in the report that it is not abandoning its e-reader business, as the company currently offers more than 3 million resources of newspapers, e-books and magazines.

In the report, the two companies are expected to announce the device in August with a price tag of not more than $200.

For many years, Samsung has been considered as the 'authority' when it comes to Android tablets, and sometimes even smartphones for that matter. And now, it looks like other companies are giving them such recognition as well. For the Korean tech giant, getting into joint projects especially as it adds to the company's already effective marketing strategies.
