Top Android Games 2014: Classic Runner Temple Run Gets 1 Billion Downloads Across Platforms

If you are smartphone gamer, certainly you have already played Temple Run, whether the original, the sequel or any of its different film adaptation versions.

And it looks like the original and sequel are enough for Imangi Studios to notch 1 billion downloads for the title.

According to a report by Android Community, the 1 billion download count may seem huge, but that number included downloads for both games, the latter released more than a year ago.

In addition, Imangi also merged the download numbers from both platforms, and we're talking about iOS and Android. Now, slowly the 1 billion download count does not seem like that huge anymore.

Still, the tally did not include installations from movie adaptations such as Temple Run Oz, Brave, etc.

Now that Imangi Studios has finally crossed that mark, it is not high time for the game developer to make new unique games. It does not need to create an exactly similar application, but expand on other niches and gaming genres as well.

Rovio, another award-winning app developer has clinged to the success of the Angry Birds franchise, though for the next couple of years, the different updates and 'themed' versions of the application were becoming bland and boring even for loyal fans of Rovio.

As a result, the game developer started working on different genres one of which include a puzzle-physics combo, racing, and RPG.

Imangi could do the same way, though it should be careful not to mess its games with a lot of in-app purchase options. Another game named Castle Clash is among the top paid Android games in the Play Store today, mainly because its need for in-app purchases does not hinder with the character's progression in the game.

Now that Temple Run has managed the feat initially established by Angry Birds, Imangi Studios should move on and work on newer projects.
