‘X-Men: Apocalypse’ Cast Rumors: Mad Men’s Jon Hamm As Cable? TV’s Don Draper Named By X-Force Creator As Ideal Actor Along With Tom Hardy! Will They Appear In The Sequel?

The cast rumors for "X-Men: Apocalypse" are building up. One character that seems like a no-brainer to appear is Cable.

Being the direct descendant of Scott Summers and Jean Grey, he should be at the forefront of the mutant resistance against En Sabah Nur.

A recent podcast with Simon Kinberg, X-Men writer, reveals that he was supposed to be the mutant who will travel back across time. Somehow, that role went to Wolverine.

"Wolverine seems like the immediate, reflex, sort of obvious person to choose, but it wasn't for us, maybe because we're not that smart, but Matthew Vaughn and I, who was the director at the time and with whom I developed the screenplay initially, we explored the notion of Bishop being sent back, Cable being sent back, a new character being sent back, who we could cast old and then sort of cast in the prominent part of his life as a new young actor. Somewhere in that process we just looked at each and I really don't remember when it was to be honest, and just said, 'We have a character who doesn't age and happens to be the most popular character in the movie franchise,' and as Hugh Jackman almost literally hasn't aged, it then became Wolverine who we sent back in time."

"Days of Future Past" is already a thing of the past now. Looking ahead, if Cable will indeed be introduced in "Apocalypse," who should be the actor?

The creator of X-Force and the character of Cable, Rob Liefeld stated that his "dream casting for Cable earlier today when the question arose on Twitter. The comic book writer and artist thinks Jon Hamm or Tom Hardy would make a good Cable. With Hardy already having a comic book role to his resume, Hamm seems the more likely of the two. While the Mad Men actor is a favorite for a lot of DC roles, a recent fan image of the actor as Cable that has been making the rounds may make you change your mind about that."

The fan made photo went viral, and it presents a very valid argument for the casting choice.
