Oppo N1 Mini: Is The Steep-Priced Android Phone Worth It?

Oppo has just unveiled the N1 mini in its home market in China, though the company has not yet confirmed any specs about the device.

However, the Chinese brand has already released the price tag of the Oppo N1 mini, and it is not certainly fit for a midranger.

At 2699 Yuan or around $431, the Oppo N1 mini may fail in its target market even before it goes official.

In recent reports, the Oppo N1 mini packs some pretty decent specs, though we certainly think this should not be worth over $400.

The Android-powered smartphone boasts a 5-inch display with HD (1280 x 720) resolution. At 5 inches, it cannot be considered a mini compared to other devices such as the flagships from HTC and Samsung. However, when compared to the original N1 which packs a massive 6-inch screen, 5 inches is definitely 'mini'.

On the internals, the phone runs on a quad-core CPU clocked at 1.6GHz, and Android 4.3 Jelly Bean. Hopefully Oppo would be able to upgrade the device to Kit Kat before the year ends.

On the camera department is where the N1 mini excels. Same as its bigger and older sibling, the smaller smartphone gets the 13MP swivel camera which is fun and cool to use at the same time.

Unfortunately, Oppo made another compromise with the 2GB of internal memory. Hopefully, the Chinese brand would launch a different version of the device when it makes it available in the international market.

Powering the N1 mini is a decent 2,140mAh battery, though even that is still questionable for a 5-inch device.

Oppo has been on a run, especially with its Find 7 and 7a releases earlier this year. However, this new N1 mini is an entirely different device altogether, with a different target market. In a few weeks, we'll see whether it would still be a hit.
