2014 NBA Finals: Tim Duncan To Play Point Guard? The Best Power Forward In The Game Wants A Position Change! What Would Tony Parker Say?

The 2014 NBA Finals headed off to a hot start by San Antonio-literally. Thus, after their triumph in Game 1, they needed to cool off with Tim Duncan's startling revelation.

Tim Duncan is arguably the best power forward of all time. Actually, the only thing "arguable" is whether he is a power forward or a center-a position he played prior to Tiago Splitter becoming a starter.

But he's supposedly not interested in that anymore. He wants to play a totally different position-but his teammate is in the way. With quotes from the Sun Sentinel:

Gregg Popovich on the allegation that Timmy wanted to play point: "True story. He thinks he's a point guard."

Tim Duncan, (laughing):  "I think I took a step back from that. I don't think that I'm going to be able to step up and fill that role for a little while. But, no, I enjoy getting in the middle of the floor and making decisions and getting the ball to the right place, and that's what a point guard's got to do."

Parker laughed when asked if he feared losing his job and got jokingly angry that they were bringing it up during the Finals:

"Are we still talking about that? I can't believe they brought it up in the NBA Finals. It's been a joke that Timmy thinks he's a great quarterback, that he can be a good passer ... Obviously Timmy is a great passer, so every time Timmy takes the ball and he brings it up, I have to leave him alone. At least once every ten games he can bring it up."

Duncan has always been considered one of the league's best passing big men. He checks in with 3.1 assists during his 17-year career.

Duncan continues to plead his case, citing his wisdom of the position: "It's not just about making the pass, it's about moving the ball and getting it to the person that might get it to the person. If we had hockey assists, I think our team would lead the league in hockey assists because we keep moving the ball and keep moving bodies. But it's just about making the right decision at the right time and it's not always about making the right decision that gets the shot, but the right decision that makes the play happen."

Will that be enough to compel Pop to alter his rotation?

Seriously, for those who thought the Spurs were boring, they do have an ample sense of humor.
