Hulu To Make Judd Apatow Show 'Love,' With 'Community' Star Gillian Jacobs To Costar Alongside Paul Rust [PHOTO]

In many ways Hulu has been lagging behind Netflix and Amazon in terms of producing original programming, they just haven't been able to land a hit quite yet. That may all change, Vulture reports that Hulu is in advanced talks to buy a comedy series written by comedy mogul Judd Apatow, with talk of "Community" star Gillian Jacobs to star.

A pilot script for the project, tentatively titled 'Love,' has already been co-written by Apatow, "Brooklyn Nine-Nine" writer Lesley Arfin, and actor/ writer Paul Rust. Paul Rust will co-star alongside Gillian Jacobs, who has a recurring role on Judd Apatow's produced "Girls."There is some talk that Brent Forrester of "The Simpsons, "The Office," and "Undeclared," may be the co-showrunner along with Apatow

One possible problem is that Gillian Jacobs is locked into "Community" until Monday. If Sony and NBC find a way to save the show it could be a problem, which, sorry Apatow, is something we (we being nerds and meta-comedy connoisseurs) are all desperately praying to the t.v. gods for. Unless Hulu ends up buying "Community" which reports say is unlikely.

'Love' has been described as a character-based comedy revolving around relationships, romantic and otherwise, with one very messed up couple at the center.

If Hulu close the deal for 'Love' it would be a big get for the new content team at the streaming service, led by former Fox and Warner Bros. exec Craig Erwich. It would also highlight just how important digital distribution players like as Netflix, Hulu, and Amazon are becoming, taking original show ideas from big names like Apatow over the more traditional networks.

All that said, talks could fall apart, like they did with Hulu's talks to buy "Community." But with Apatow and Gillian both being involved it is a safe bet that the show will be produced somewhere, eventually. Hulu has so far declined to comment.
