Nexus 5 Review: Is It The Last Ever Nexus Smartphone?

There was a lot of praise and clamor when LG unleashed another Nexus device. And for the succeeding weeks, several Nexus 5 review articles were written just to tell readers how good the Google phone is.

Running on stock Android 4.4 Kit Kat during its launch in November last year, the LG Nexus 5 showed great promise as it was running then the most powerful chipset, and packed with best resolution display available (Full HD). It had 2GB of RAM, which is the staple RAM memory for flagship devices, as well as a 13MP primary camera which was then the best Android camera.

Unfortunately, early in its stint as the Google hero phone, the Nexus 5 encountered a number of issues, primarily in the camera department. Images were not as good as they were supposed to be and a lot of consumers complained. As a result, Google made a quick fix to work on it and by the start of the year a new update is already available.

Aside from the camera, battery drain was also observed on the Nexus 5, and that was surely a no-no for people who rely on their smartphones on the go.

Slowly but surely, Google was able to fix these issues which made the Nexus 5 a stellar device once more. Unfortunately, CES and MWC have already come and gone and some consumers have picked their options already.

While the Nexus 5 in its entirety is a splendid device and it is still among the best specwise, it may not get too much attention now.

And so everyone thought Google would provide a rightful successor to the Nexus 5 during its I/O Conference earlier this week. Unfortunately, the only Nexus device we heard of was the 8.9-incher that HTC is currently brewing.

So is this the end of the Nexus smartphone lineup?

Reports earlier this month revealed that Google will be replacing the Nexus lineup with Android Silver, and in this week's event it announced Android One. So where is the Nexus 6? After five years in the Android business, we all think the Nexus smartphone lineup deserves one last hurrah right?
