Diane Sawyer’s Replacement David Muir Completes TV's Three White Male Anchors With ‘World News’ Stint; Set-Up Akin To 1970s?

Diane Sawyer's replacement David Muir completed the three white male anchors as he take the helm of "World News," a set-up that is reportedly reminiscent to the 1970s.

In a statement to media outlets, Diane Sawyer said: "After wonderful years at 'World News' I decided it is time to move to a new full time role at ABC News."

By leaving the "World News," the trailblazing female anchor said that she would focus more on "enterprise reporting, innovative approaches to breaking news and new ways of thinking about big issues and events around the world."

According to Media Bistro, Diane Sawyer's replacement David Muir is sending a "subliminal message" to the world.

Quoting Karen Turner, Philadelphia's Temple University associate professor of journalism, the website said: "The evening news anchors are the face of the network. In this growing multicultural nation, it's unconscionable that as of September three white men will lead their respective networks."

Diane Sawyer replaced Charles Gibson in 2009 following his retirement, a move that was welcomed by quarters as a fresh change from the male-dominated field.

NBC's Nightly News has Brian Williams, CBS's Evening News has Scott Pelley and now ABC's World News will have Diane Sawyer's replacement David Muir

Karen Turner added: "Certainly Pelley, Williams and now Muir are accomplished journalists. However, the subliminal message this sends is these - white males - are the legitimate faces that should represent America."

According to CNN, David Muir will take the helm for "ABC World News" starting September 2.

However, George Stephanopoulos, the co-host of "Good Morning America" was promoted to chief anchor and that means David Muir won't be on hand for breaking news and election coverage.

In a report by RadarOnline, the reason for ABC choosing David Muir over George Stephanopoulos was due to Diane Sawyer.

"Diane has been telling her bosses in the news division at ABC that George would be a terrible replacement for her when the time comes for her to hang it up," a source told the website.
