'St. Vincent' Starring Bill Murray Releases Trailer About 'Hedonistic Malcontent With Nothing Going For Him': 'Ghostbusters' Star Joined By 'Tammy' Actress Melissa McCarthy And Naomi Watts [VIDEO]

The trailer for Bill Murray's latest movie "St. Vincent" has just been released. Directed by newcomer Theodore Melfi, "St. Vincent" will also star Melissa McCarthy and Naomi Watts.

In the trailer for "St. Vincent," a Catholic school teacher played by Chris O'Dowd explains sainthood saying, "A saint is a human being we celebrate for the sacrifices that they make, for their commitment to making the world a better place."

While that may describe Bill Murray in real life, it doesn't explain his character St. Vincent de Van Nuys in "St. Vincent."

Slate describes the plot, saying, " Van Nuys is a hedonistic malcontent with pretty much nothing going for him. Maggie (Melissa McCarthy) is his new neighbor, a single mother whose son Oliver gets bullied at school. Having learned that his bank account is overdrawn, de Van Nuys offers to watch Oliver after school for a paltry $11 an hour. Cue the hijinks: The unlikely nanny takes his charge to the racetrack, teaches him how to defend himself, and introduces him to Daka (Naomi Watts), a "lady of the night" who, as she explains in a somewhat exaggerated Russian accent, "works for the man."

You can watch the trailer here.

The trailer lays out the basic plot points of friendship between a 12-year-old boy and his dissolute neighbor showing him gambling, strippers and drinking.

It starts with a bank teller telling Murray's character he has no money in his bank account - "Here's zero - you went below zero" - followed by Norman Greenbaum's widely used "Spirit in the Sky."

Director Theodore Melfi said that Harvey Weinstein wasn't sure if McCarthy was up for the dramatic material. McCarthy didn't back down from the challenge. "Melissa said, 'Let's show Harvey!' " Melfi recalls. "We put her on tape, which is unheard of for someone of her stature. Harvey got the tape on a Friday. On a Monday, he called me. He said, 'You're 100% right. I can't think of anyone else now.' "

Mefi compares McCarthy to another comedic icon who did more than just make people laugh. "Personally, I think in 20 years," he says, "we're going to be talking about Melissa McCarthy like we talk about Mary Tyler Moore."

Bill Murray's "St. Vincent" hits theaters Oct, 24.
