Billboard 200 Chart 2014 Update: Weird Al Yankovic’s ‘Mandatory Fun’ Enters At Number One, Week Of Debuts As Jason Mraz And Rise Against Round Out Top Three Albums

In the latest Billboard 200 chart release for 2014, funnyman Weird Al Yankovic has headed straight for the top!

"Mandatory Fun" was released on July 15 and sold 104,000 copies by July 20, says Billboard. You might have spotted Weird Al Yankovic's creative viral advertising campaign for the record - the comedian released new videos daily for "Mandatory Fun", with eight shared on the likes of YouTube and College Humor.

It's an impressive feat for Weird Al Yankovic's parody album to hit the top spot on the Billboard 200 chart in 2014.

"'Mandatory [Fun]' is the first comedy album to top the Billboard 200 since Allan Sherman's 'My Son, the Nut' spent eight weeks at No. 1 beginning on the chart dated Aug. 31, 1963," Billboard reported. "A couple of comedy sets came close since then, including Steve Martin's No. 2-peaking 'A Wild and Crazy Guy' back in 1978 and a pair of No. 2 Cheech & Chong titles in the early 1970s."

But no comedy release has been able to achieve what Weird Al has managed this time around.

Weird Al Yankovic has parodied the likes of Iggy Azalea and Pharrell on his new record, and it seems the stars have been more than happy to have their hits get the Weird Al treatment. The comedian asked the "Fancy" singer whether he could create his "Handy" version of her hit after a gig in Denver and she didn't hesitate!

"I talked to her as she was literally walking offstage," said Weird Al, as reported by Yahoo!7. "I introduced myself, 'Hi. I'm Weird Al Yankovic and I would love to do a parody of Fancy'. The next morning I was in the studio recording."

Rounding out the top three records on the Billboard 200 chart for this stage in 2014 is Jason Mraz's "Yes!" and Rise Against's "The Black Market". Both albums are also in their debut week.

It's been a sharp drop for Aussie singer-songwriter Sia in this latest round of chart positions - she had previously hit number one on debut, but has swiftly fallen to 19th spot on the Billboard 200.
